The word has reached mine ears that Fudge now has her very own theme on Vox! Way to go, awesome puppy gets an awesome theme. Thanks to Stacey for doing the art and the Vox team for approving it. We always wanted to see Fudge on here, now we can. Yay!
In other news, not much to report. I am back in the US for two weeks visiting Janine. Trip is going well. Life in Iceland is continuing apace. Work, play, work, and more work are my general activities. Oh and stopping to take some time to go out from time to time.
I still am not sure what to do with two blogs really. Keep thinking I want to start keeping a tech blog and talk about programming and similar things that I am doing. But most of my readers are on LJ already, so I'd hate to split them. Of course, having a public face I can just point people to would be nice. Ah well, thoughts for another day.
Hmm, I don't see anything new on the compose page. I think the top menu has been redesigned some - at least, I don't remember the pulled out bar with common links and Help and such. Tip section seems new too. Looking good, Vox, looking good. Like the space theme too.
In retrospect, I really like Vox (although I still think of it as NotComet when I am feeling nostalgic). It's a solid product. I am quite optimistic about its future!
Well, happy birthday Vox. You're now a year old from the very first entry ever. That was back when it was called Comet and we didn't know what the name was going to be. That first post was from when the infrastructure got setup "for real" and we had most of the components in place.
The site has certainly come a long, long way from where it used to be. It's rather impressive what Vox is like now. While I don't really use it much (everybody I know is on LJ and I hate posting in two places), whenever I do come back it's just striking how much more polished it feels. Vox is beautiful. The schemes, the layouts, it's just a joy to work with.
Shine on, Vox. Shine on.
Every time I hit my Vox blog to read my neighborhood or my blog, I am amazed by how nice it looks.
Hats off to the Vox team. You guys and gals are really doing something awesome here.
(Yeah, not much content to this post. Sorry, but I just felt like saying this!)
What's one thing that you'd like to get done this weekend? Is there anything holding you back?
I don't really have anything in particular that I want to get done this weekend. I have two get togethers to attend on Saturday, and then I have something I have to show up for (online) Sunday. The weekend is already pretty booked, and it's not even begun yet.
Past that, I'd like to work on Perlbal some. I have a change to get in for the cometd project that David Davis asked me to do. (Letting plugins define a new service... relatively minor change, but he's doing some magic to make it work and it'd be nice to actually support this functionality.)
Not sure if I'm doing anything else. Would be nice to just relax, not sure if that'll happen any.
P.S. I find this sort of behavior weird: I use my cell phone to post a photo, and then half the people comment on the entry, half the people on the image. It seems strange to allow comments to both, as then people end up going two places to read all the comments. I'm not sure an elegant solution, as I think there should be comments on both. It just feels weird overall.
I have switched to the Urban Sunset design - it's beautiful. Very nice job, Tiffany! (I can't seem to find her in the people linker thing, doh?)
I'm very pleased to see the changes to the compose page, as well. I like the insert buttons being somewhat centered, and offset by the blue. It seems to flow much better.
Overall - congrats to the Vox team. Seems like another fine release. :-)
I absolutely love distributed systems. I love the fact that I just switched the active database from one machine to another, and you didn't see a thing. It's just cool. It's certainly not unique to Six Apart, but it's just something I think is neat.
Not much else to report now. Spent the day engineering backup stuff, or rather, reworking it so that it can be ported to work on Vox from LJ. Had to change and tweak a bunch of things, and then test it out the wazoo. Still lots to do though.
Got some tasty sushi on the way though. That will definitely make this evening episode that much brighter. Heeeeeck yeah!
But in reality, it's a good night. I vastly prefer working at night than I do in the day. Less interruptions, less noise, and my brain doesn't really seem to get going until I've been awake for some number of hours anyway.
Enough rambling, time to work!
That's not funny. I had to go back five pages to read all of the posts in my neighborhood. That's way too many, you must stop posting. (Nah, I'm kidding. Post more!)
Really though, now that I've done that, I have some feedback...
It felt slow going back that far. Perhaps because of only 10 posts on a page? Perhaps because the style is so thin that it takes forever to scroll? (And scrolling is a pain, this machine is really old and you can literally watch it refresh as you page down. UGH.)
Either way, something in that process could surely be optimized, I believe. Hmmmm.
