What's the one CD that will totally remind you of the Summer of 2006?
I'm a little weird, I think. I don't really have music that reminds me of periods of my life. My only time association with music (that I can think of) is this one country song that will forever remind me of staying up all night long reading Sci-Fi books on the top of the bunkbed I shared with my brother Ryan.
I can't remember the name of the song, but I can hear it in my head. It would play on the radio late at night, and I always heard it while snuggled under the covers with the little lamp on, reading some book or other. It was an interesting period of life, I guess.
What is your current earworm?
(OH HELLO TODAY IT DEMANDS I HIT ENTER ONLY ONCE! Yes, my lord!)
An earworm is the song that is stuck in your head. The song, or songs, demand to be played. Over and over. Round and round and round they go!
Currently, it's the main theme from the Phantom of the Opera. So it's going round and round and round and AUGH! I've purchased the album to the right from the iTunes Music Store, so I'm good. It's going to be on repeat all day, I can tell.
It's interesting to see what kind of music gets stuck in peoples heads, and why. This particular tune is firmly implanted due to its instrumental nature. The vocals in the background complement, rather than detract from, the music. It just flows together, and provides much listening enjoyment.
I recommend you take a gander at the soundtrack if you've never heard it before. It's a lot of fun.
Sing... my angel... SING! For me!
blank post, so I get the qotd box, and then can click "edit this post" and really type my answer in
Okay, I don't know that there's a book that has changed my life. Instead, I will write about a song. A song I was thinking of this morning, and playing in the car on the way to work. This is my anthem, as it were.
This album, Crush by Bon Jovi, contains the one song that I have used at all of the tough points in my life. Whenever a decision needed to be made and I needed to make it, but I didn't know how things would turn out, I would play this song as a way to psyche myself up for it.
The song is called It's My Life and you've probably heard about it. It's a great song, full of energy and good vibes. Perhaps my favorite lyric is "I just want to live while I'm alive... It's my life!" I agree with that more than words can really say. When I was moving out on my own right after I turned 18, I used this song. When I was leaving my life to go to school and be near Janine, I used this song. When I dropped out of school to pursue my career, it was this song that was there for me.
It's amazing to me how music can do that for someone. How one particular song can be the impetus of so many things in my life. Or, perhaps, the catalyst that allows me to go from the past to the future. If anything, it's this song for me.
I'm sure that the next time there's a big decision in my life and I don't know what's on the other side, you'll be able to come by my desk and just hear this song. You will see me with my eyes closed, and know that I am about to do what I feel will be best for me - bedamned the consequences.
Full speed ahead, Cap'n. That's what I believe.
When I was born, the number one song seemed to be:
Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes.
When I turned 21, it was:
Baby Boy by Beyoncé featuring Sean Paul.
I'm not sure I know either of those songs. That's pretty sad, I think. Oh well.
It's such a hard question to answer, as many songs will do this for me. Although, I will not say 'happy mood', but more like, 'contemplative mood'.
Rob Dougan - Clubbed to Death. That is probably the song I will have to go with. I should find a copy and upload it so you can experience the eargasm that it is.
It's all instrumental, but it just makes you stop and shiver with the sound. I love it, and will pause and listen to it for the full 10 minutes just as a way to decompress and figure out what I am feeling.
Another song I've been obsessing with lately is Trans-Siberian Orchestra - Mephistopheles Return, simply for the lyrics and how the melody goes. I absolutely adore the part in the middle where they get four distinct rounds going. Beautiful.
But right now, I'm listening to Shakira. That's right. I enjoy her music, some of the Spanish songs are just awesome to listen to. The end.
Sugar Ray's Abracadabra is pretty catchy. It keeps getting stuck in my head. Thankfully it's a cool song and I'm not going crazy. Also on my playlist right now:
Stan - Eminem
Can't Take It - The All-American Rejects
Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down
God Bless the USA - Lee Greenwood
Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue - Toby Keith
Don't Worry, Be Happy - Bobby McFerrin
Now if that isn't the weirdest list you've ever seen, I don't know what is. Country, pop, rap, 80s, all in one playlist. Hah!
It's really weird. My musical tastes really run the gamut. I just have to find a catchy tune, lyric, beat, or something unique that I just want to listen to.
